What to expect
Experience holistic healing tailored to your unique needs.
Before you arrive
- Please plan to arrive 5-minutes before your scheduled appointment. Late arrival may result in a reduced treatment session as there is no guarantee additional time is available at the end of your scheduled appointment.
- Bring physicians prescription or referral if applicable. A prescription or referral is NOT required for myofascial release treatment, however a prescription or referral may be needed if you intend to utilize HSA, or company flexible spending account.
- Myofascial Release requires direct skin contact, but it tends to be more active than traditional massage therapy. Therefore, please wear comfortable clothing that gives access to your skin. Good examples would be loose fitting shorts, a sports bra (or similar), tank top, or two-piece swim suit (for women).
- Myofascial Release works best on clean, dry skin. Please do not apply lotions, oils or other products to the skin prior to your appointment as it may have a negative effect on the sustainability of MFR techniques.
What to expect during your session
- At the start of your session, you will be asked to complete a brief pre-assessment questionnaire and sign a consent form for treatment. I will discuss your primary symptoms and concerns to tailor the session to your specific needs.
- During the 90 minute session, I will conduct a visual assessment, followed by palpation and a thorough examination of specific areas. This process helps both of us identify any restrictions that may be present.
- Restrictions refer to areas where fascia is tight or dense, potentially compressing nerves, organs, and tissues, contributing to discomfort and dysfunction. You might notice that these restricted areas feel warm, firm, or tender. These signs serve as fascial cues that inform my treatment approach. It's important to understand that restrictions in one location can result in symptoms elsewhere in your body.
- It can be important for you to communicate any sensations you experience during and after the treatment. If you feel an urge to move or stretch, please do so. If emotions arise, allow yourself to fully experience them. You are in control of your treatment session and you can stop at any time.
After your session
- Drink water. It is crucial to increase your water intake following any bodywork. Proper hydration aids in flushing out toxins released during the treatment and supports the fascial system that has been addressed. Additionally, drinking sufficient water can help alleviate any post-treatment soreness.
- Embrace your sensations. Often, in the presence of pain, we may try to ignore it or wish it away. However, pain can serve as a cue to delve deeper into the issue, guiding you toward understanding its root cause. Whether you experience physical or emotional sensations, allow yourself to acknowledge them for true healing to occur.
- Recommendations for self-care: We will discuss various activities and exercises for you to practice at home. Engaging in self-care, paired with follow-up sessions with your therapist, will enhance your recovery both in the immediate and over time. While I encourage you to visit anytime, my goal is for you to eventually achieve self-sufficiency through learned self-care strategies, supplemented by periodic therapist-led sessions as needed.
- Schedule your next appointment. For ongoing or chronic conditions, it is advisable to seek treatment 2-3 times per week initially, alongside home self-care practices. As your condition improves, the frequency of your sessions can be adjusted accordingly.
